This position is for a Project Engineer 5 to serve as the lead engineer for the Undersea Warfare (USW) department. The USW department is responsible for design and development of concepts to integrate advanced systems, vehicles, and payloads with submarines and other platforms. The department manages and provides support across multiple contracts ranging from R&D demonstration programs to new vehicle/submarine design efforts.
The engineer will organize and lead cross-discipline teams of engineers and designers to execute complex engineering projects, interface with customers and partners, and manage day‑to‑day project management and engineering activities. Key tasks include developing technical project plans, estimating schedules and costs, tracking progress, coordinating resolution of technical issues, and identifying risks and concerns to the program manager. The candidate must be familiar with submarines and undersea systems and have experience leading design and engineering activities.
Have
- Bachelor’s Degree and 14 years of relevant exempt experience
- Master’s Degree and 12 years of relevant professional experience
- Ph.D. and 9 years of experience
- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
