Role Overview

KT2i is seeking a Systems Engineering Lead to provide technical leadership in the research, development, design, and validation of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems and associated control logic for large-scale haul truck platforms, including autonomous systems. This role combines hands‑on engineering, system modeling, software development, cross‑functional collaboration, and team leadership responsibilities within an agile development environment.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electro‑mechanical systems for large haul truck platforms, including autonomous systems.

  • Perform system calculations, modeling, and simulations to support design decisions.
  • Create and review schematics representing system operation and design.
  • Develop system specifications and requirements outlining control logic and functional behavior.
  • Write software and apply model‑based design techniques to develop control modules.
  • Initiate and define detailed component‑and‑system‑level test and validation plans.
  • Research and evaluate electric and hydraulic components for control systems.
  • Analyze and optimize system designs and operational parameters using analytical methods and machine data logs.
  • Interface with cross‑functional engineering disciplines to ensure system integration and performance.
  • Specify control system components including PLCs, computing platforms, HMIs, and related hardware.
  • Estimate development timelines and cost requirements for system development and production.
  • Review and analyze design proposals, technical specifications, and operational documentation.
  • Resolve system malfunctions and develop operating procedures.
  • Provide technical leadership within the Systems Engineering team.
  • Train, mentor, and develop engineers and technical personnel.
  • Review and approve mechanical and electrical system designs to ensure compliance with engineering and performance standards.
  • Serve as Scrum Master for Systems Engineering agile planning processes, aligning team execution with departmental objectives.
  • Plan, assign, and direct work; address issues and resolve technical and operational challenges.
Required

Skills & Qualifications
  • Master of Science or Master of Engineering degree with 6–8 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, or
    Bachelor of Science degree (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or related) with 8–10 years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • Strong ability to mathematically model mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink or similar technical computing platforms for system modeling and data analysis.
  • Experience reviewing and post‑processing machine data logs to define operational parameters.
  • Ability to develop specifications and requirements describing system functionality and control logic.
  • Understanding of model‑based code development processes and tools.
  • Knowledge of industrial hydraulics and electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of automated control systems.
  • Ability to perform circuit analysis using fundamental electrical equations.
  • Experience reviewing and performing CAD layouts in 3D modeling software.
  • Experience with project management tools such as Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to scope technical projects accurately and develop supporting documentation.
  • Ability to install and modify basic control system wiring.
  • Strong analytical skills, including algebra, probability, statistical inference, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, software specifications, safety rules, and maintenance manuals.
  • Knowledge of robotic and/or autonomous systems.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to execute instructions in written, verbal, or diagram form.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport.
  • Ability to maintain Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) certification.
Additional Notes

This role includes both advanced technical responsibilities and leadership duties within the Systems Engineering function, supporting the development of complex, large‑scale equipment platforms.
