The Role

Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub‑assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems. This position is for the Platform Acoustics Group in Department E46, Ship Survivability.

Must Have
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience.
  • Master’s Degree and 0 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
Nice to Have

Acoustics – Position requires a BS or MS in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program. Experience and/or coursework in acoustics or vibrations is preferred in order to analyze acoustic engineering issues in ship designs. The successful candidate must be detail‑oriented, able to work in a team environment to achieve goals and meet timelines, quick learner able to apply new skills to perform acoustic analysis on new ship designs or concepts.

Good communication and writing skills will be required in order to present work to peers and customers. Candidate must be a self‑starter, able to work independently, and perform engineering acoustic analyses with documented rigor. Experience with acoustic transfer functions, acoustic level predictions, acoustic or vibration testing, ship or systems engineering, or acoustic modeling using MATLAB, AEROS, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, HYPERMESH, or SEAM is a plus, although not required.
