The Role

This is an UNPAID internship through the Hire Vets Now (HVN) Skill Bridge Program for transitioning active‑day‑to‑day active‑Duty US military personnel. HVN Skill Bridge Internships are available to help transitioning active‑Duty military personnel gain real‑world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active‑Duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership.

Newport News Shipbuilding Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full‑time regular and permanent job with Newport News Shipbuilding.

Description
  • Identifies hazardous workplace conditions and takes preliminary samples and measurements of hazardous forces and toxic substances.
  • Removes hazards and/or protects employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment.
  • Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standard provisions of any labor agreement, ensuring that all required records are prepared and maintained.
  • Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and in any procedures that may follow a citation.
  • Investigates, prepares, and forwards as required reports on injuries and fatalities.
  • Conducts safe work procedures training courses.
Must Have

Active‑Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active‑Duty service. Transitioning Military candidates can begin applying within final 12 months of military service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.
