Designer, CAD​/ AutoCAD​/ Mechanical Design, Engineering Design & Technologists

Chipton-Ross is seeking a Designer 3 for a contract opportunity in Newport News, VA.

• Associate's Degree and 3 years of experience. 2 years of related experience can be substituted for Associate's degree. 4 years of non‑related experience can be substituted for Associate's degree. An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School can be substituted for Associate's degree.
• 2D and 3D CAD tool proficiency (AutoCAD or SimensNX).
• Experience developing and checking ship construction drawings.
• Material selection and BOM development.

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.

• Extensive experience with the arrangement design of shipboard piping or HVAC systems. Proficiency with both 2D and 3D design tools is necessary.
• Experience with checking the work of peers and coordination and implementation of charge orders is desired.
• Ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites, including those aboard ship under various stages of construction or overhaul, including the use of vertical and inclined ladders and may involve limited kneeling and stooping.

Associate's Degree is required. School must be accredited.

5/40 workweek. 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.
