Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non‑metallic or composite structural materials for product design or operation of product. Performs dynamic structural (shock) analyses utilizing finite element analysis (FEA) methods and develops engineering calculation reports. Leads dynamic and transient analysis projects, mentors junior engineers, and ensures project objectives are met.

• Dynamic structural (shock) analyses using FEMAP, NASTRAN, Abaqus, Hypermesh and government codes.
• Hand calculations using textbook methods and development of engineering calculation reports.
• Underwater explosion analysis and related projects.
• Training and mentoring of junior engineers.
• Project planning, execution, and objective management.
• Potential future requirement for SECRET clearance.

• Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program and 9 years of relevant exempt experience.
• Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience.
• Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

• Structural or mechanical background supporting CVN, Special Projects, VCS, SSNX platforms.
• Background in fluid‑structure interaction.
• Knowledge of structural response and design requirements for surface ships or submarines.
• Expertise in Finite Element Analysis software (Femap, Hypermesh, Abaqus) and related first‑principles methods.
• Experience with nonlinear material response, structural dynamics, mechanical response, and vibrations.
• Experience with shock qualification methods, testing, and extensions.
• Programming skills in FORTRAN, Matlab, Python, etc.
• Leadership, mentoring, and training experience.
• Project management experience with task planning and execution.
• Experience working with NAVSEA and naval warfare centers.
• Strong technical writing and oral communication skills.
• Experience with high performance computing systems and nonlinear advanced analysis methods.
