The Role Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency;
and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis. This position is intended for the VCS Test Group within Department E25. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting integrated mechanical systems testing on Virginia Class Submarines, including system activation, lineup verification, operational checks, and performance validation under test conditions.
Responsibilities include diagnosing system level issues across pumps, valves, actuators, hydraulic components, seawater systems, chilled water systems, and auxiliary machinery by analyzing pressure, flow, vibration, noise, and equipment response data. The role requires identifying abnormal system behavior, isolating mechanical or functional discrepancies, validating system interfaces, and confirming correct operation within the full shipboard test environment. The incumbent will maintain configuration control during test evolutions, document test results and deficiencies, coordinate troubleshooting actions, and work with Engineering, Production, Planning, and technical vendors to resolve issues impacting system readiness.
Regular communication occurs with Navy test personnel and waterfront teams through email, phone, and in person meetings. Daily work includes utilizing Microsoft Office, Teamcenter, engineering databases, and Test Engineering documentation systems to support system testing, discrepancy tracking, and certification readiness.
