This requisition is for a Project E5 position in the A4W Propulsion and Reactor Planning Yard's Carrier Inactivation and Disposal Group. Veteran engineer with nuclear/reactor plant fluids system experience. CVN
68 Class plant operations/nuclear test experience is a plus. Familiarity with the navy nuclear ship inactivations and/or CVN
68 Class refueling overhaul planning and execution processes are also desirable. The primary role is to assist with leading the carrier inactivation and disposal planning/execution efforts for CVN
68 and the remaining NIMITZ Class carriers for the PREPY. The role requires strong project management, communications, writing, and organization skills. The candidate must be a self-starter, highly motivated and be able to execute tasking with minimal supervision. In addition, the candidate must be able to develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
This position will lead a team of engineers and to fulfill various tasking efforts to include: planning/execution of the drain down plan - calculations of residual water, coordinate reviews/changes/liaison issues to the Reactor Plant Inactivation Guidelines manual, coordinate/manage reclamation of nuclear cognizant PRPEPY components, end of life inspections, and collaborate with various stakeholders in the successful execution of carrier inactivations and disposals.
Duties include attending shipboard meetings and performing ship checks in PREPY cognizant reactor/propulsion plant spaces. RADCON/dosimetry qualification will be necessary as well as no physical restrictions in going onboard the ship (i.e. must be able to climb ladders, no issues transiting up and down gangways, stairs, tight spaces, etc.) Some travel time is also expected to Naval Station Norfolk (NSN), Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Washington Navy Yard, etc.
Position requires regularly communicating with the Navy, NAVSEA, NNL, BPMI, and NNS-HII shipyard Nuclear Propulsion Division (NPD) stakeholders (E81, E82, E84, E85) and technical staff via various platforms. Responsibilities include production and Ship's Force support during carrier Ship Terminal Offload Period at NSN and during the inactivation at HII-NNS with engineering and deck plate support, troubleshooting, technical evaluation of inspection, test results, etc.
