Health And Safety Skillbridge Intern

This is an unpaid internship through the Hire Vets Now (HVN) Skill Bridge Program for transitioning active‑duty U.S. military personnel. The internship is available during the final 180 days of active‑duty service and is designed to provide real‑world experience on meaningful projects under the guidance of a mentor and senior company leadership.

• Identify hazardous workplace conditions and take preliminary samples and measurements of hazardous forces and toxic substances.
• Remove hazards and/or protect employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring the use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment.
• Ensure workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standards and maintain required records.
• Participate in OSHA inspections and support any follow‑up procedures after a citation.
• Investigate, prepare, and forward reports on injuries and fatalities as required.
• Conduct training courses on safe work procedures.

• Active‑duty military personnel within the final 180 days of active‑duty service (transitioning military candidates may begin applying within the final 12 months).
• Education and experience requirements depend on the specific program of instruction.

Although unpaid, interns will receive comprehensive exposure to engineering, safety, and operational processes at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division, the largest industrial employer in Virginia.
