Who We AreThis position will be embedded into a direct support role in the Newport News Shipbuilding Radiological Controls Engineering group. This group is responsible for providing engineering, monitoring, training, radiation health and technical services, and emergency planning support to the lead Newport News Shipbuilding Radiological Control Program to service Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines. WhatYou Will Do
- Designs, develops, and tests nuclear equipment and systems.
- Conducts research on new materials of special interest in nuclear reactors.
- Conducts studies related to the detection and control of radiation and radioactive contaminants.
- Studies nuclear fuel cycle to define most economical uses of material and safest means of waste products disposal.
- Other areas of research include radiation transport modeling, statistical analyses and performance metrics.
- Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.
- Radiological Controls Engineering consists of three main group:
Reactor Servicing;
Overhaul Maintenance for Aircraft Carriers; and Fleet Support, Facilities, & Special Emphasis Projects.
- Candidate is required to have Zero (0) years relevant experience with a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering or related degree.
- Candidate must have successfully completed an undergraduate degree from an ABET accredited program.
- Candidate must be proficient in the use of desktop or personal computers with associated software (i.e., word processing, graphics, database, spreadsheets, etc.) or other computer products as required by the applicable discipline.
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
- US Navy nuclear propulsion program experience aboard submarines or aircraft carriers.
- Commercial nuclear power plant operations experience.
