- Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations
- Use computer-aided design equipment and graphic tools such as CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA
- Gather information, conduct studies, perform calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches to present design proposals
- Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups
- Support configuration management of Los Angeles Class (699CL) and Virginia Class Submarine (VCS) products
- Ensure accurate and consistent integration of design changes due to complex hull applicability
- Create, check, and process Engineering Reports (ERs)
- Check 688CL and VCS products, including Ship Alts, LARs, IRs, and ERs, for junior personnel
- Provide guidance, training, and mentoring
- Conduct ship checks at local shipyards and naval bases
- Travel as necessary to shipyards and naval bases across the United States
- Resolve emergent high-priority issues independently and lead team efforts
- Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience
- Equivalent options to meet the Associate's Degree requirement: NNS Apprentice School graduate;
Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate;
High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience;
High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience - US Citizenship Required for this Position
- Experience with design, research, project management and general problem solving related to submarine machinery, electrical and piping spaces
- Proven history of resolving complex problems with limited supervision
- Working knowledge of shipyard operations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and in groups with minimal oversight from management
- Comfortable directing personnel of various Engineering and Design positions
- Ability to use computer-aided design and graphic tools such as CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA
Demonstrates expertise in design and modification of submarine systems, utilizing CAD, CAM, NX, and CATIA for effective product development. Proven ability to lead teams, mentor junior personnel, and resolve complex engineering challenges in shipyard operations.
