Mechanical Engineer

• Research, plan, design and develop mechanical products and systems
• Apply research to planning, design, development and testing of mechanical and electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines and machines
• Support construction, testing, maintenance, overhaul and modernization of CVN 78 Class aircraft carriers
• Support reactor plant fluid system piping design
• Apply governing specifications
• Approve 3-D product models and system fabrication drawings
• Perform engineering evaluations and calculations to resolve ship construction and vendor problems
• Develop reactor plant fluid system design improvements
• Write technical letters to Naval Nuclear Laboratory and Naval Sea Systems Command
• Provide engineering support for aircraft carriers under construction and at sea
• Communicate with Structures, Electrical, Components, and Propulsion Plant Monitoring and Control functional areas

• Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience; or Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience; or Ph.D. and 0 years of experience
• Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
• U.S. citizenship required
• Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
• Preferred: experience using Teamcenter® and the NX product model
• Preferred: reactor plant fluid system experience
• Preferred: experience working with NAVSEA, NNL and the Shipyards
• Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
• Ability to work on shipboard visits, potentially involving access to radiological areas

Demonstrates expertise in mechanical and electromechanical systems design, development, and testing, with a strong focus on reactor plant fluid systems and compliance with governing specifications. Proven ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and provide engineering support for complex projects.
