Requirements
  • Be at least 18 years of age before the start of the summer intern program (Mid-May)
  • Be enrolled in a degreed program that supports the company’s business requirements
  • Typically study Electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, Business, Management, Accounting, or Economics/Finance
  • Have attended a college or university and completed at least one year of course work by May
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; official transcripts will be required
  • Attend a college/university in an undergraduate or graduate program in the fall following the internship
  • Successfully complete a criminal background investigation and a hair follicle drug screen
  • Work a 40-hour work week for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer
  • Provide school name, degree program and major, anticipated graduation date, current academic level, overall GPA, and applicable relatives employed at Newport News Shipbuilding
  • An adequate email address is required when applying, receiving communication, and obtaining employment offers
  • U.S. Citizenship required for this position
  • Some technical or waterfront positions may require physical access to work sites, including ships, vertical and inclined ladders, kneeling, stooping, and standing

Demonstrates foundational knowledge in engineering disciplines such as Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering, along with strong academic performance and the ability to work in a technical environment. U.S. Citizenship and successful completion of background checks are essential for access to shipboard and work sites.
