The Onboarding team owns the first experience every user has after signing up for Reddit. Every new Redditor, on every platform, walks through a flow we design, and our job is to make those first interactions feel streamlined, delightful, and personal. We guide each user through the signals we need to tailor their experience, then use those signals to help them quickly discover the magic of Reddit: valuable content and communities that feel approachable, relevant, and immediately rewarding from their very first session.

Few teams at Reddit sit closer to the company's growth than this one. • Foster and guide the technical strategy for onboarding, defining and accelerating backend architecture for signal collection, personalization pipelines, and experimentation infrastructure.
• Partner with the Engineering Manager to cultivate a growth engineering mindset, balancing velocity with reliability and rigorous experimentation.
• Scale impact through collaborative engineering with teams such as Relevance, Feeds, Notifications, ensuring Onboarding has a technical representation and influence on roadmaps.
• Instrument, measure, and iterate: establish instrumentation and experimentation foundations to run rigorous A/B tests and use metrics to prioritize efforts.
• Guide cross‑functional alignment, serving as engineering voice in XFN partnerships with Product, Design, Data Science, and other platform teams, aligning stakeholders on feasibility and trade‑offs.
• Raise the bar on engineering excellence by advocating reliability, scalability, maintainability, leading design reviews, and establishing patterns for the broader organization.

• At least 7 years of experience leading cross‑team projects that solved tangible business problems.
• Strategic partner and systems thinker, able to plan for the future while helping solve immediate technical blockers.
• Mentor who helps other engineers level up and build culture.
• Deeply data‑informed and logical, ensuring metrics drive design and architecture decisions.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity in growth‑team environments, prototyping fast and pivoting based on data.
• Clear, transparent communicator able to distill complex trade‑offs for all audiences.
• Experience with ranking, recommendations, and personalization; proven track record on ML‑heavy products and backend architecture.

Base salary range for this position is: $217,000 - $303,000 USD
