Location:
Newport, South Wales Job Type: Full-time, 24-month Fixed Term Contract
Working Hours:
37 hours per week, Monday to Friday Join our team as an Ecologist to provide essential in-house ecological expertise supporting our projects. This role ensures that capital projects, particularly large-scale multimillion-pound projects, are planned and delivered in compliance with ecological legislation, best practice, and environmental commitments. You will collaborate closely with project managers, designers, and contractors to proactively address ecological constraints, thereby enhancing project efficiency and compliance.
Day-to-day of the role:
Promote a pragmatic, risk-based approach to ecological compliance, aligning with the organisation’s Environmental Action Plan. Maintain detailed records of ecological surveys, advice provided, and support delivered to projects. Provide ecological insights during the design, planning, and delivery stages of capital projects. Plan and coordinate ecological surveys according to current best practices. Prepare ecological reports and documents such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Ecological Constraints Plans.
Support biodiversity initiatives and contribute to Biodiversity Net Gain calculations and strategies. Required Skills &
Qualifications:
BSc or MSc in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field. Membership or candidacy for membership in CIEEM. Profound knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and ecological best practices. Significant experience in ecological support for large-scale infrastructure or capital delivery projects. Proficiency in ecological reporting and GIS, desirable for mapping and data analysis. Full UK driving licence. Benefits:
