Overview
The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) seeks a bilingual Public Benefits Specialist, Entry (Benefit Support Staff) to serve as a first point of contact for customers in office, online portal, and telephone. The role supports day-to-day operations for programs such as TANF, SNAP, domestic violence, ERDC, long-term care, and medical assistance.
Language RequirementsSpanish language proficiency (bilingual) is required. A bilingual differential pay of 5% of base pay is provided.
Responsibilities- Provide a welcoming environment for families and customers using a trauma-informed approach.
- Greet and assist customers entering the office, online portal, or phone calls.
- Collect initial information from customers and provide status updates on cases.
- Answer inquiries and provide information on how to access community resources.
- Maintain high volume of work in a fast-paced environment using computer programs to track customer details.
- Generate system notices, coordinate internal communication, and document or reference procedures, policies, and processes.
- Collaborate with team members by rotating tasks to meet office needs.
- Two years of experience in a reception or call-center setting involving high-volume data entry and customer service, or
- Associate degree in Behavioral Science, Social Science, or related field plus six months of relevant experience, or
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to adapt communication style to diverse audiences.
- Basic computer and search-engine skills, email usage, and learning new web-based platforms.
- Attention to detail in data entry and document review.
- Collaborative teamwork across varied work styles.
- Professional handling of confidential information with honesty and integrity.
