Corrections Health Nurse

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is looking for a Corrections Health Nurse to provide comprehensive health maintenance, preventive and primary medical care, and treatment to adult inmates within the county corrections facility. This role assists in the operation of the health care unit and in developing, coordinating, and evaluating professional nursing practices under the direction of the Sergeant, and assumes responsibility for the unit in the absence of management staff.

Compensation: $38.56 - $51.81 per hour* (additional financial incentive for RN with an AA or BS degree and for those with verified translation abilities). $5,000.00 hiring bonus.

• Conduct and document comprehensive nursing assessments of inmate health status.
• Collect objective and subjective data, analyze and report findings.
• Diagnose and prioritize nursing concerns, involve patient in care planning.
• Identify and document measurable, culturally relevant outcomes.
• Develop and coordinate comprehensive nursing care plans and oversee implementation.
• Provide health promotion and education concerning diet, hygiene, substance abuse, and disease prevention.
• Administer medications, conduct daily detox assessments, and perform dressing changes; monitor vital signs.
• Document medical history, nursing interventions, and prescription drug use in electronic medical records.
• Ensure safe and sanitary environment, particularly for restrained or closely monitored patients.
• Maintain stock and proper use of medical supplies and equipment; prepare for physician or assistant examinations.
• Respond to emergencies, lead scene until EMT or medical officer arrives.
• Assist in training staff on first aid, CPR, Narcan, and other health care topics.
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, and community outreach activities.

Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or an Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.

Licensed RN not required. Preferred: 3 years of experience as a non‑licensed or licensed caregiver.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required.

Oregon Driver’s License required within 30 days of hire.

Valid Oregon nursing license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse, and a valid insurable Oregon motor vehicle license with good driving record.

Must be free of convictions punishable as a felony or involving controlled substances, and pass a law enforcement background check and psychological assessment. Must reside within two hours of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

• Carry out orders of physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
• Protect confidentiality of privileged information.
• Maintain safety awareness in hazardous environments.
• Respond to medical emergencies in prison settings.
• Perform multiple tasks simultaneously in fast‑paced environment.
• Work independently in satellite offices.
• Prepare for court testimony and related documentation.
