Job Description:

Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission:
To protect and enhance Oregon's fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations.

We are hiring for one full-time, permanent position located in Newport, Oregon.

What you will do:

You will serve as the project leader for the Marine Resources Program (MRP)’s commercial finfish field operations team. Some major duties include, but are not limited to:

Oversee Finfish Field Operations by supervising staff, managing hiring and performance, guiding career development, and administering budgets, contracts, and project resources.

Lead project operations by directing data collection, developing and updating sampling designs and protocols, coordinating field activities, and ensuring communication across internal and external teams.

Manage coastal pelagic species (CPS) activities by representing ODFW in regional and federal management forums and supporting policy and regulatory processes.

Plan and evaluate research projects, collaborate with NOAA Fisheries, maintain logbooks, and conduct port sampling through regular travel to coastal field sites.

Communicate project findings through reports, data summaries, and guidance to fishery managers, stakeholders, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, all applicants must meet one of the following options:

Option 1:
Six years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program. At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a fish or wildlife program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities.

In addition, one year of this experience must have included leadwork or supervisory duties.

Option 2:
Bachelor's degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Bachelor's degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework and three years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program. At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a fish or wildlife program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities.

In addition, one year of this experience must have included leadwork or supervisory duties.

Equivalency Notes:

A Master's degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Master's degree in biological/ecological sciences will substitute for up to one year of the required experience.

A Doctorate degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Doctorate degree in biological/ecological sciences will substitute for up to two years of the required experience.
