Lincoln County is looking for a Victims' Assistant to assist the District Attorney's Office by helping our community members through what can be a traumatic and vulnerable time in their lives. This person will be performing a variety of general office and clerical tasks within a flexible work schedule throughout the District Attorney's Office. This role is also responsible for providing essential support to the Victims’ Advocates.
$18.17 - $24.42 per hour*

This is a Part-Time, Non-Benefitted position.

Responsibilities- Prepare and assist with notifications and other paperwork relating to victims of crime:
- Contact victims to verify phone/address information and notifies victims of their rights.
- Prepare and mails victims’ rights information, forms, and notices of upcoming court dates and case status.
- Check the dockets to ensure proper victim notification is anticipated.
- Assist victims who come in to complete forms.
- Maintain records of all contacts, including in our Case Management System.
- Provide support to victims:
- Accompany victims to court proceedings and sit with them before Grand Jury testimony.
- Arrange for hotel, meals, and/or transportation for victims for Court and Grand Jury proceedings.
- Assist the public:
- Answer phones, route calls; may answer general questions.
- Meet the public and direct individuals to the appropriate area.
- Participate in meetings, which may include All Staff, Victims Assistance, SART or DART meetings.
Education
High School Diploma / GED
Completion of a college level computer course.
Experience
None
Certifications
LEDS Awareness Certificate upon hire;
Notary Certificate may be required upon hire; SVAA Training Certificate required within 1 year of hire date.
Desirable
Qualifications:
One year of office experience, supplemented by courses in typing, computer operation and office procedures. Bilingual and bicultural competencies.
Knowledge and Skills- Familiarity with community resources and ability to make appropriate referrals for direct service.
- Confidentiality rules in the criminal justice system and victim’s assistance field.
- Employ a high degree of empathy and confidentiality.
- Problem solve, decision make and explain situations clearly.
- Be sensitive and compassionate to victims and witnesses.
- Respond effectively in crisis situations with a prejudice and judgment free attitude.
- Demonstrate adequate math skills for complex restitution cases.
