Position: MAIL CLERK (OFFICE AUTOMATION).

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks to capture and track costs, distribution, collection, package tracking information, and storage of classified and unclassified mail.
  • Maintain and apply pertinent organizational data to document cost and performance metrics and ensure data accuracy to generate required management reports for internal and external review.
  • Provide advice and assistance to staff, faculty, and students regarding mail preparation, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining support data files to identify specific cost centers and organizational uses of material.
Conditions of Employment
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level (time‑in‑grade).
  • Within the Department of Defense, the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement is subject to 5 U.S.C. § 3326.
  • Males born after 12‑31‑1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Must successfully complete a pre‑appointment physical examination.
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS‑04 grade level or pay band in the federal service, or comparable experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate:

  • Receiving, sorting, screening, and distributing incoming and outgoing mail in accordance with established regulations.
  • Maintaining tracking systems and records for mail distribution, postage, and delivery.
  • Using office automation tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word) to enter, update, and generate reports on mail operations and costs.

This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. The typing skill will be evaluated during the application process.
