Arkansas State University‑Newport invites applications for Adjunct Faculty in the areas of Applied Sciences:
- Commercial Driver Training
- Welding
- Hospitality
- Cosmetology
This is a twelve‑month position. Night and weekend work is periodically required.
The Driver Training Instructor prepares students for the commercial driver’s license (CDL) test, maintains student records, organizes classroom materials, and maintains equipment.
This position provides the necessary instruction to prepare students to obtain their commercial driver’s license (CDL) and supports client training for business and industry. The successful candidate will provide Commercial Driver Training to students enrolled in High Voltage Linemen Technology, Diesel Repair Technology, and CDL Driver Training Program.
Pay will be based on experience, earn up to $21.00 per hour.
Education/ExperienceApplicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, Associate Degree is preferred. More than 5 years over the road commercial driving experience. Must hold a current Class A Commercial Driver’s License and demonstrate an understanding of operator level truck maintenance, trip/route planning, and DOT safe driving regulations. Previous experience in a driver mentor/training program is preferred.
Part‑Time Instructor of Welding Qualifications- Education:
Associate degree or appropriate industry certification(s) - Welding Knowledge/Ability
- Journey Level experience in the welding field (minimum of 3 years).
- Experience with SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW processes.
- Experience with Plasma arc and Oxy Fuel cutting processes.
- Hold certification or show ability to pass AWS and NCCER welder qualification testing.
- Computer skills:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. - Ability to quickly adapt to operation of new software including the ASUN Learning Management System.
- Interpersonal
Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing, and through email. - Ability to quickly adapt to needs of the students.
- Ability to maintain control of a classroom.
- Effective problem solving, critical thinking, and decision making skills.
The Welding Instructor will utilize nationally recognized curriculum in the classroom and lab environments to prepare students to meet educational and career goals.
Physical Requirements- Long periods of standing on concrete and tile floors.
- Lifting of heavy materials.
- Tolerance to extreme heat.
- Visual acuity to inspect welds with or without corrective lenses.
