St. Michael’s Country Day School is an independent school in Newport, RI serving students in toddler (2 year olds) through grade eight. St. Michael’s Country Day School exists to develop courageous learners and caring citizens who are world ready.

We are actively seeking an experienced math teacher for potential openings within the Middle School (grades 6-8). Candidates must have a strong understanding of the academic, social, and emotional needs of middle school students, and a passion for working with this age group during a critical stage of development. Ideal candidates will bring both a deep understanding of mathematics instruction and a commitment to helping students build confidence, problem solving skills, and conceptual understanding in a rigorous and supportive learning environment.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Understanding, appreciation for, and commitment to 21st century learning skills
• Aptitude for and commitment to meaningful technology integration in the classroom
• Ability to create engaging learning experiences that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and student voice
• Experience designing and implementing effective math curriculum and instruction
• Ability to differentiate instruction to support a range of learners and mathematical readiness levels
• Commitment to helping students develop strong quantitative reasoning, mathematical fluency, and confidence as learners
• Experience with project-based learning, Responsive Advisory, differentiated instruction, and student-centered instructional practices (preferred)
• Experience teaching middle school math courses such as pre algebra, algebra, and geometry (desirable)
• Master’s degree and prior middle school teaching experience (preferred)

• At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
• Bachelor degree preferred
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required
