Job Description

This is a full-time, live‑on, on‑call position.

Basic Function

The Assistant Director will foster an inclusive and supportive environment for the university community, promoting understanding, collaboration, and respect among individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities
  • Implement inclusive student‑facing programs that translate the university’s Mercy mission into action.
  • Coordinate signature cultural events such as Multicultural Education Week, MLK Week, and the Mercy Summit.
  • Develop initiatives supporting student belonging through hospitality, cultural celebration, and mission‑rooted engagement.
  • Facilitate workshops, trainings, and peer‑led sessions on intercultural development and cultural humility.
  • Provide operational support for the Intercultural Competency Development Program, including session logistics, participant tracking, and workshop facilitation.
  • Collaborate with campus departments, student groups, and community organizations to promote inclusive programming.
  • Work closely with the Assistant VP on strategic programming goals and communicate insights from implementation.
  • Foster environments of hospitality, support, and celebration for underserved student groups.
  • Provide direct support to students navigating identity development and intercultural growth.
  • Oversee the work‑study program and student mentorship program.
  • Track program participation, assist with event logistics, and support assessment efforts with the Assistant VP.
  • Support data collection for campus climate and learning outcomes where applicable.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, theology, student affairs, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in student programming, multicultural affairs, or DEIB work.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with students with varied lived experiences.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • More than two years of experience in student programming, multicultural affairs, or DEIB work.
  • Master’s degree in education, social sciences, theology, or student affairs.
  • Familiarity with intercultural development frameworks such as IDI.
