Pro Sidian seeks an advanced level English as a second language (ESL) instructor (PESL
02) located:
Newport, Rhode Island  to provide DoD/military sector related management and operations solutions for English second language (ESL) course services on behalf of the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) | USNWC international programs directorate. These services are considered part of the Pro Sidian education and academia sector group with overall focuses being education and academia (EAA) sector group: helping learning institutions provide best-in-class training and knowledge management, pursue research, and enhance technological development that provides an industry ready workforce and innovative ideas to start new ventures.

Under NAICS code: 611430 - professional and management development training for the USNWC international programs directorate with service(s) also characterized as intermediate and advanced English second language (ESL) course instruction.

International programs has a requirement to assist international military students with their ability to participate verbally in naval war college courses, comprehend written texts, and effectively communicate their thoughts and arguments in written papers. The courses will be at two levels: intermediate and advanced. The advanced level is comparable to university courses for international teaching assistants at U.S. universities. Officer courses will be taught with emphasis on academic preparation for reading and writing.

Responsibilities and duties include:

  • The instructor assumes direct responsibility for the delivery and conduct of classroom instruction to include but not limited to the following: prepare all necessary coursework materials before class; maintain student roster and contact information; report weekly attendance to international programs; disseminate any class schedule changes as directed by international programs.
  • Provide a prepared syllabus to international programs for contracted courses at two levels (officer-intermediate and advanced) prior to start of first class.
  • Submit a grade report of "pass" or "fail".
  • Provide assistance to students in public speaking by listening to practice speeches, noting recurring grammatical problems and providing feedback for improvement.
  • Provide assistance in evaluating student papers as part of the NWC syllabus. Critique papers for syntax and grammar through written feedback to the student.
  • Conduct post instruction questionnaires and produce a final progress report to international programs.
  • Provide all textbooks and all required materials for all of the courses outlined above.

Desired qualifications for English as a second language (ESL) instructor (PESL
02) | key personnel | program manager - exempt 874-1 consultant candidates:

  • Master's in ESL/EFL pedagogy, linguistics or a related field of language teaching with 2 years of experience teaching ITAs, experience in critiquing writing skills and administrative experience

Skills required:

  • Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

Competencies required:

  • U.S. citizenship required - you must be a United States citizen
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (this employer participates in the e-verify program)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, & Adobe)
