Position SummaryThe Department Of Cultural, Environmental, And Global Studies (CEGS) invites applications for a full‑time lecturer of anthropology focusing on medical anthropology. The successful candidate will teach and advise undergraduates in the joint sociology/anthropology major, with expertise at the intersection of gender, race, and medicine. Relevant themes include:
- Food insecurity
- Climate change
- Health inequalities across wealth, gender, race, and ethnicity
Faculty are expected to support the university mission emphasizing social justice, stewardship of the earth, and principled problem‑solving.
Duties and Responsibilities- Teach eight courses per academic year (4/4 teaching load).
- Advise students and coordinate internships.
- Teach foundational departmental courses (e.g., Interpreting Cultural Differences, Medical Inequities, Global Health, Social Theory).
- Teach interdisciplinary courses (e.g., Research Methods, Environmental Justice).
- Develop courses and lead study abroad or immersive field experiences.
- Mentor students and supervise independent study or senior thesis projects.
- Ph.D. in Anthropology (earned prior to appointment start).
- Strong background in cultural and medical anthropology.
- Demonstrated undergraduate teaching experience.
- Ability to teach both foundational and interdisciplinary courses.
- Commitment to academic advising and mentorship.
- Experience in community‑engaged teaching and research.
- Ability to lead faculty‑led study abroad programs.
- Experience with honors programs and high‑impact learning experiences.
- Ongoing scholarly or applied research involving undergraduate participation.
