The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) provides behavioral assessment, consultation, intervention development, and staff training services within a school(s) setting to support students with behavioral, social‑emotional, developmental, and educational needs. The BCBA collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure students receive evidence‑based behavioral supports that promote access to a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE). This position is aligned with the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Professional Standards, applicable special education regulations, and ethical standards established by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
This position reports to the Special Services Director.
- Provide modeling and direct instructional support, including, but not limited to, in‑service support and coaching to help support professionals, such as teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, etc.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families to support student behavioral and educational success.
- Support the IEP process — including eligibility meetings, manifestation determinations, and multidisciplinary team discussions — by providing behavioral data, assessment findings, and consultation as needed.
- Utilize evidence‑based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methodologies consistent with educational best practices.
- Collect ongoing data in a designated system to establish baseline and programmatic efficacy for school‑based teams, and analyze data frequently and on an ongoing basis to guide programming and support for students.
- Monitor the implementation of behavior plans with school teams with a focus on teaching and other antecedent strategies for reducing problematic behavior(s).
- Meet as needed with school‑based staff to discuss ongoing student issues and provide support when necessary, including modeling, coaching, etc.
- Support implementation of behavioral programming across general education, special education, and alternative educational settings.
- Provide coaching, modeling, consultation, and professional development to district staff regarding behavioral interventions, data collection, classroom management, crisis prevention, and de‑escalation strategies.
