JOB DESCRIPTION:
To assist the principal in providing high quality administration and leadership at Rogers High School.
- Hold or be eligible for a Rhode Island Department of Education certification as a secondary principal;
- A master’s degree or higher in Administration;
- At least five (5) years of successful experience as a teacher and/or administrator at the elementary school level;
- Demonstrated knowledge of and an ability to use computer technology as it relates to the job responsibilities;
- Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, educational experience, school-level involvement and/or system wide professional activities; and the interview process;
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the committee may find acceptable and appropriate.
- Assists the principal in the overall management and administration of Rogers High School and Newport Area Career and Technical Center (NACTC);
- Manage and oversee the Guidance Department, fostering in district articulation and providing opportunities and development of programs to serve multiple pathways throughout Rogers HS.
- In collaboration with the Dean of Students & Principal, foster a positive school culture amongst students, staff and administration.
- Provide opportunities for growth and development of Restorative Practices amongst staff and students.
- Assists principal with student scheduling using student information management software;
- Evaluates teachers as requested by principal;
- Reviews and recommends revisions for secondary school disciplinary guidelines;
- Assists principal in staff interviews and selection process;
- Assists principal in the implementation of the RI High School Regulations;
- Serves as liaison with Alternate Learning Program, community partners, and Thompson Middle School;
- Supervises and/or coordinates all extra-curricular activities, school functions, and athletic events;
- Supervises PK-12 specialists within Rogers High School;
- Manages the daily scheduling of substitute teachers;
- Provides oversight and management of high school grant programs;
- Serves as acting principal in the absence of the regular principal;
- Oversees the requisitioning of supplies, textbooks, and equipment; and monitors inventory control procedures;
- Assists in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities;
- Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the student body, deals with special cases as necessary, and acts as liaison between the deans and the principal;
- Works with parent, faculty, community, and/or student groups, as requested, to advance educational objectives;
- Assists with planning, organizing, coordinating and administering summer programs;
- Assists the principal in the implementation and evaluation of standards-based classroom practice;
- Maintains and coordinates master activity calendar;
- Be familiar and remain current with changes and developments in education, including but not limited to standards-based curriculum, instruction and assessment, teaching-learning styles, programming for at-risk students, balanced reading programs, emerging technologies, school improvement teams, individual school improvement plans, inclusion practices, authentic assessment, differentiated instruction, and developmentally appropriate practices;
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.
