Director of Information Technology

St. Michael’s Country Day School seeks a skilled, responsive, and forward-thinking Director of Information Technology to lead all aspects of the school’s technology systems and infrastructure. This is a full-time, on-site, year-round position and an essential role in supporting the daily operations and long-term strategic vision of the school.

Serving students from toddler through Grade 8, St. Michael’s is committed to developing courageous learners and caring citizens who are world ready. The Director of Information Technology plays a critical role in ensuring that faculty, staff, and students are supported by reliable, secure, and thoughtfully implemented technology systems that enhance teaching and learning.

The Role

Reporting to the Business Manager, the Director of Information Technology is responsible for the comprehensive management, maintenance, and advancement of the school’s technology ecosystem. This includes infrastructure, network systems, hardware and software, cybersecurity, data systems, and user support. The Director works closely with faculty and staff to ensure that technology is both functional and mission-aligned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and maintain all school technology systems, including network infrastructure, servers, devices, and cloud-based platforms, ensuring reliability, security, and regular upgrades
  • Manage cybersecurity systems, data protection protocols, backups, and disaster recovery planning
  • Provide responsive technical support and troubleshooting for faculty, staff, and students, and ensure classroom technology is functioning effectively
  • Lead device management, including deployment, maintenance, and lifecycle planning
  • Serve as the primary administrator for Blackbaud SIS, supporting data integrity, system configuration, and faculty use
  • Coordinate technology needs for school events and ensure audiovisual systems are operational
  • Collaborate with school leadership on technology planning, vendor coordination, and strategic improvements, while providing training and support to faculty and staff

The School

Founded in 1938, SMCDS is an independent day school of 250 students serving children from toddler through grade eight, with class sizes ranging from around 10-16 students. The school emphasizes strong academics and features a comprehensive arts program, along with specialists in science, physical education, Spanish, and Innovation Lab. The school’s mission is to develop courageous learners and caring citizens who are world ready.

The school’s well-appointed 7-acre campus overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and is situated in historic Newport, Rhode Island, minutes from some of the most impressive beaches and coastal landscapes that New England has to offer. Newport and the beaches of Aquidneck Island are destination locations and teachers have the opportunity to integrate the geographic and cultural surroundings into their curricular programming. There are numerous universities and colleges close by, including Salve Regina, University of Rhode Island, Brown, Rhode Island School of Design, Providence College and Roger Williams, adding to the cultural and intellectual climate of the area.

Providence is a short drive (35 minutes), Boston is a bit more (1 hour and 30 minutes) and New York City (4 hours) is close enough for a weekend trip. This is a highly desirable place to live and work.
