Immigration Staff Attorney, Immigration Coalition of Rhode Island

Position:

The Staff Attorney will be responsible for providing free immigration legal services to primarily indigent clients seeking asylum or deportation defense. The Staff Attorney will also collaborate with community organizations to provide trainings on immigration issues and will participate in the Immigrant Coalition of Rhode Island activities with member agencies in Rhode Island.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing free immigration legal services to primarily indigent clients seeking asylum or deportation defense
  • Collaborate with community organizations to provide trainings on immigration issues
  • Participate in the Immigrant Coalition of Rhode Island activities with member agencies in Rhode Island

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required
  • Experience working in a non-profit / legal service setting
  • Broad knowledge of immigration laws and policies in order to effectively evaluate clients’ legal status and benefit opportunities
  • Experience giving presentations and educational workshops to diverse audiences on immigration issues
  • Positive values of integrity, accountability, reliability, and teamwork
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (able to work well with others and possess patience, diplomacy, and tolerance when working with others)
  • J.D. from ABA accredited law school
  • Member in good standing of any state bar
  • Minimum 3 years immigration legal services and immigration court experience preferred
  • Commitment to immigrant rights
