Overview
SummaryResponsible for management of the daily operations of the physical plant, systems and grounds. Manages the repair, design, modification, and preservation of buildings and grounds. Ensures that all architectural mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilation, and cooling systems are in operating order and in compliance with all applicable governing agency facility standards, codes and regulations. Responsibilities- Demonstrates knowledge and commitment to Brown University Health's and the Hospital's mission, vision, values and goals through leadership of assigned functions and participation in a wide variety of organizational activities.
- Demonstrates understanding of job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment plan.
- Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and adheres to Customer Service Standards.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and acts in accordance with the principles of the Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
- Develops, recommends, and implements department and applicable hospital policies and procedures to maintain effective and efficient operations and meet expectations of those served.
- Reviews and maintains current departmental and administrative policies and procedures.
- Reviews Hospital/Brown University Health policies and procedures.
- Completes Mandatory Education (Hospital-wide, Department-specific, Job-specific).
- Collaborates with Director and Brown University Health leadership in the development and maintenance of the facilities and grounds.
- Ensures the department's scope of services meets internal and external customer needs and expectations.
- Communicates the department's goals in alignment with the hospital's and Brown University Health's mission.
- Demonstrates flexibility and innovation to improve operations, revenue, effectiveness, productivity, and other quality factors.
- Exhibits effective decision-making, strategic alliances, and customer service excellence.
- Promotes continuous knowledge sharing and professional development among staff.
- Manages employee relations policies and ensures fair, equitable, and consistent application.
- Assesses manpower needs, skill mix, scheduling, and budgets accordingly; implements creative manpower planning solutions.
- Develops competency-based job descriptions and conducts hiring and ongoing performance assessments.
- Establishes clear performance expectations and completes annual reviews; provides recognition and constructive counsel; administers disciplinary actions as needed.
- Encourages teamwork and staff involvement in problem-solving and decision-making.
- Assesses learning needs and develops an ongoing department education plan linked to safety, competency, and continuous improvement.
- In collaboration with Director, develops and proposes annual departmental budget and capital expenditures to improve efficiency and service delivery.
- Operates within the approved budget and monitors expenses to identify cost saving opportunities.
- Monitors staffing for optimal productivity and accurately reports time for payroll.
- Plans, develops, and implements policies, procedures and programs to maximize departmental revenues.
- Develops department policies and trains staff in information management principles.
- Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive information; utilizes computer technology for data generation, retrieval and analysis.
- Maintains current policy and procedure manuals and reference materials.
- Identifies, evaluates, and recommends equipment acquisitions; maintains assets safely and efficiently.
- Manages a department-specific equipment plan and ensures maintenance and inventory of equipment.
- Prevents loss or abuse of assets and manages supplies effectively.
- Demonstrates knowledge of department-specific safety issues and leads safety initiatives.
- Develops and enforces department safety policies and provides a department-specific safety training program.
- Develops and manages processes to measure, assess, and improve service quality; participates in continual improvement activities; uses improvement tools and indicators.
- Allocates resources and monitors results; integrates improvements into processes.
- Participates in professional activities to stay current with trends and regulations.
- Encourages feedback and facilitates constructive dialogue; presents effectively in meetings and written communications; maintains timely information flow across the department.
