Overview
Reporting to the Radiology Nursing Supervisor, the RN provides nursing care for patients undergoing MRI and CT scans with intravascular contrast agents. The role focuses on patient safety, hypersensitivity reaction management, and patient/family education in line with Brown University Health’s mission.
Responsibilities- Manage acute hypersensitivity and drug reactions using established treatment algorithms.
- Administer reassurance, oxygen, antihistamines, IV fluids, beta‑2‑agonist inhalers, epinephrine, and position changes as indicated.
- Activate emergency response systems and call for assistance when necessary.
- Conduct assessments via interviews, record reviews, and documentation on appropriate forms.
- Implement nursing interventions per care plan and evaluate outcomes.
- Prioritize patient needs, act as patient advocate, and address biological, psychological, sociological, and cultural needs.
- Provide education and procedural information to patients and families; distribute written materials.
- Assist with quality assurance activities, and maintain equipment, emergency supplies, and protocols.
- Help order supplies and equipment, and develop policies and procedures as needed.
- Serve in an ambulatory setting for Radiology Nurse Navigator activities, covering at least 2 days per week, up to 5 as required.
- Maintain professional expertise through continuing education.
- Perform all functions considering age‑specific needs of geriatric, adult, and adolescent patients.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Licensed RN in Rhode Island or RN licensed under the Nurse Licensure Compact.
- Current BLS certification.
- Two years of progressively responsible RN clinical experience; radiology experience preferred.
- Judgment in calling for assistance and activating emergency response.
- Interprofessional communication skills with patients, physicians, staff, suppliers, and service representatives.
- Analytical ability to assess and re‑evaluate patient condition and determine appropriate action.
- Strong interpersonal skills for education and emotional support.
- Knowledge of care across the lifespan, including aging, development, and cultural patterns.
Physical Requirements
Healthcare setting such as acute care hospitals, physician offices, and ancillary enterprises. Work involves medical equipment, direct patient contact, and adherence to safety procedures. Employees will walk and stand intermittently, lift and position patients, and lift supplies up to 50 pounds. Possible exposure to electrical and energy hazards.
Schedule & CompensationWork type:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8‑4:30. Shift: Day. Daily hours:
8. Driving required. Pay range: $35.70–$71.40 per hour.
