Newport News, Virginia – Hiring Range: $91,000.00 – $ per year. Actual pay is determined based on job‑related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.

Overview

Works under the supervision of the Agency Nurse Managers and assumes responsibility for the smooth and effective operation of the Agency in the absence of the Administrator and/or Director of Nursing on a 24‑hour basis. Supervises nursing care, instructs nursing procedures, and interprets policy and its application to team members. Ensures effective staffing levels and resources for quality patient care. May perform in an RN role by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the total nursing care of assigned patients.

The Clinical Manager utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making to oversee patient care throughout the Agency based on physiological, psychosocial and cultural diversity. Responsible for supervising and delegating non‑professional personnel to ensure optimum patient care. Works under the direction of leadership and a multi‑disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive range of services or clinical care associated with and in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health System and Division goals and strategic plans.

Eligible for a sign‑on bonus of up to $5,000 to candidates that qualify.

Responsibilities

Oversees and manages the nursing care for the agency or department. Facilitates quality patient care through effective staffing levels and resources to meet patient care needs. Supervises and delegates staff to ensure optimum patient care. Responsible for daily operations in the absence of the DON and/or agency manager and directs the operation of the facility efficiently, effectively, and in a professional manner.

Maintains a safe patient care environment by complying with RHS policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements that support national safety patient goals and quality initiatives. Recognizes and reports variances and provides resolutions. Investigates nursing errors, complaints concerning nursing care, patient/visitor accidents, and counsels personnel at the time of occurrence or when an error is discovered as appropriate. Documents all incidents in a timely and accurate manner on appropriate forms per facility guidelines.

Builds trusting collaborative relationships with a multi‑disciplinary team to support patient care needs. Actively participates in multi‑disciplinary team meetings. Develops, trains, and educates staff on policies, procedures, best practices, and strategic goals. Recognizes and responds to variances of patient care/condition and appropriately notifies physician and team. In a collaborative manner, problem‑solves issues with physician and/or team. Documents appropriate complaints/PI issues and provides timely follow‑up, as appropriate.

Performs supervisory visits with assigned staff and provides assistance in planning nursing care, problem solving, interpreting nursing policies, and patient assignments. Closely supervises personnel and renders direct nursing care as appropriate. Adjusts and monitors staffing levels as needed to provide adequate nursing care as directed by the census and/or patient’s individual needs. Manages overtime and works within staffing allocations budget. Assesses staffing/patient care needs and makes good decisions when adjusting as documented on staffing sheets.

Communicates and documents appropriately changes in staffing/patient care, sick callouts, etc.

Qualifications

    Program Graduate, Nursing – Required
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree, Nursing – Preferred
  • Experience:

    Nursing experience – Required
  • Experience:

    Supervisory experience – Preferred
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    Registered Nurse (RN) – Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) – Required
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    CPR/BLS Certification (American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute) within 30 days – Required
  • Driver:
    Drives personal vehicle for RHS business 25% or more of the time to perform essential functions – Valid Driver’s License Required
