Job SummaryProvides overall upkeep, inventory, and customer service for Exchange‑owned vending machines and micro markets. Acts as a customer service representative, ensuring product quality, cleanliness, and accurate merchandising while driving a company vehicle to perform duties throughout the geographical area.
Responsibilities- Maintain Exchange‑owned machines and micro markets daily.
- Inspect and replenish product assortment (sandwiches, cakes, pies, popcorn, salads, fruits, pastries, sodas, yogurt, laundry detergent, etc.).
- Ensure perishable product shelf‑life dates are observed; remove expired or aged foods.
- Greet and engage customers, providing sales assistance and product recommendations.
- Ensure sections are fully stocked and merchandise is neatly arranged.
- Communicate with supervisor regarding stock additions, deletions, fast‑ and slow‑selling items, customer preferences, and potential issues.
- Participate in department meetings, proposing ideas to improve customer service and sales performance.
- Set up and maintain prices and Exchange‑branded visual programs for micro markets and machines; maintain current price list.
- Keep micro market clean and orderly: sweep, mop, clean counters, wipe coolers, and empty trash cans.
- Assist in annual merchandise reset to meet product adjacencies, branding, and placement standards.
- Operate laptop, tablet, scanner, or handheld devices for inventory receiving and ordering.
- Relocate and install new machines; clean interior and exterior; adjust food, liquid dispensing, and coin‑changer units.
- Collect money from vending machines, micro‑market kiosks, or other devices on schedule; verify cash with vending contractors when needed.
- Record machine servicing details using handheld devices; manually record product counts and prepare Vending Machines Cash Collection Slip SS‑411 for non‑automated locations.
- Clear coin jams and issue refunds at designated locations.
- Control inventory for micro markets, trucks, routes, and vending systems.
- Collect daily turn‑in money bags from Cash Handling Clerks, verify receipts, prepare Daily Cash Receipt SS‑120, and arrange deposits per established procedures; receive bills and purchase coins from the Cashier’s Cage (Navy Exchange).
- Interact with customers and coworkers courteously, adhering to NEX dress code and uniform standards; support vending team members as required.
- Become knowledgeable about merchandise, proper setup, usage, care, and pricing; communicate product information clearly to customers.
- Operate motor vehicle throughout the geographical area; load/unload merchandise by hand or dolly; protect merchandise from damage or weather.
- Prepare and maintain Daily Trip Report of all trips.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance schedule (oil change, tune‑up, brakes, etc.) with designated NEX personnel; maintain vehicle fuel level and retain receipts for refueling and maintenance; ensure vehicle interior is clean and returned to parking area at day end.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- General
Experience:
One year of progressive, responsible clerical or retail sales work with demonstrated customer interaction. A half‑year of academic study above high‑school level may substitute each 6 months of experience. - Specialized
Experience:
One year of progressively responsible experience in retail fundamentals, including retail sales services, vending store operations, and warehouse functions. - Physical Requirements: Frequently stands, walks, and lifts moderately heavy objects up to 40 lb; may occasionally handle heavier items with assistance or material‑handling equipment.
- Job Requirements: Must possess a valid state driver’s license or CDL; knowledge and skills to operate a motor vehicle safely; ability to pass required background checks (e.g., Federal/DOD security clearance); completion of GSA Defensive Driving Course.
Work performed both indoors and outdoors; may be exposed to inclement weather while loading/unloading merchandise. Drives in all weather conditions; may incur cuts or bruises. Vehicle must be maintained clean and secured upon completion of each shift.
