Engineering Technician V

About the Role

GDIT is looking for highly motivated technicians able to perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of submarine periscopes and photonics-based imaging systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work independently, setting personal schedules and maintaining responsibility to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Perform background work in RF system operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, certification, design, and development for equipment such as electronic surveillance systems, communication systems, GPS, direction‑finding, early warning, radar, software‑defined radios, cabling, wave guides, and rotary joints.
  • Apply knowledge of commercial off‑the‑shelf digital, video, infrared, and night vision cameras, and video distribution systems to military applications, researching replacements, troubleshooting existing systems, and recommending improvements.
  • Read, interpret, and troubleshoot information from electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Disassemble and reassemble complex, compact equipment, applying mechanical aptitude.
  • Operate measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, and depth micrometers.
  • Learn new skills through hands‑on training and mentorship from senior staff; on‑job training is the primary learning method for system‑specific diagnosis and repairs.
  • Perform work on SUBSAFE components; prior experience working within the Navy’s SUBSAFE program is a plus.
  • Build, repair, and troubleshoot cables to meet MIL‑Spec requirements.
  • Operate electronic test equipment such as multimeters, meggers, RF analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Possess a former military electronics background (highly desirable).
  • Operate basic hand tools for disassembly, repair, and re‑assembly of components and systems.
  • Work within diverse teams toward common goals; with experience, take on high‑profile troubleshooting in solo environments.
  • Maintain a minimum Secret clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
Required Qualifications
  • 8 + years of applicable experience in electronics, optics, electro‑mechanical interfaces, infrared imaging, night vision devices, digital cameras, video cameras, gyros, RF equipment, electronic surveillance systems, GPS, communication systems, servers, and networks.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Mechanical aptitude and proficiency with basic measuring and hand tools.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Windows, Office products, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
  • Background with computer servers, server maintenance, Linux OS, networking, or basic programming skills (plus).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
Travel & Location

Less than 10 % travel. Work onsite in Newport, Rhode Island (USA).

Compensation

Hourly rate likely between $38.82 and $52.52. Compensation will be based on experience, geographic location, and contractual requirements.
