Position: Personal Financial Counselor, Assignment Ready Counselor - Rhode Island

The Person al Financial Counselor (Assignment Ready Counselor – Rhode Island) will provide coverage for short-term, surge, and on-demand situations stemming from military needs, such as post-deployment events or to cover absent counselors. The role involves delivering a full spectrum of personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at installations.

Responsibilities
  • Provide one‑on‑one counseling, consultations with commanders or staff, briefings, and presentations; offer referral resources.
  • Work closely with installation and branch Points of Contact (POC) to ensure program scope and installation needs are met.
  • Assist service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences.
  • Develop and disseminate informational financial materials.
  • Coordinate, publicize, and offer a variety of Personal Financial Management classes/workshops across the military lifecycle.
  • Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
  • Utilize virtual counseling or electronic modes of communication (web‑based chat or video).
  • Manage duty‑to‑warn situations in accordance with DoD protocol.
  • Communicate with leadership and participate in supervision, reporting trends and issues.
  • Engage in regular training, quality‑improvement committees, and other contract activities as directed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; associate degree plus 4 years of experience or high‑school diploma plus 6 years of experience may be considered.
  • 3+ years of financial counseling experience.
  • U.S. citizenship and fluent English; bilingual English/Spanish required if contract dictates.
  • Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier2 investigation.
  • Successful completion of the Congressionally Mandated Disclosure for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
  • Certification:
    Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC),
    Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary range: $58,440 – $93,500 (base salary).
  • Eligible for short‑term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.
