Vanderbilt Rehab Unit Part Time Nursing Assistant

Overview

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and within hospital and department policies and procedures, assists in caring for patients and/or families from admission to discharge.

A nursing assistant is a paraprofessional trained to provide personal care and related health care and assistance to individuals who are sick, disabled, or infirm, and who are residents of or receiving services from health care facilities or agencies licensed by the state and holds a license as a nursing assistant issued by the Department of Health.

• Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to organize work and set priorities.
• Under supervision, perform personal care skills.
• Execute Basic Nursing Assistant skills as outlined by the Rhode Island Department of Health.
• Assist therapists in rehabilitation, positioning, mobilizing, exercising patients, and with group programs.
• Transport patients and record movements to and from treatment areas.
• Maintain a safe environment by reporting unsafe conditions and equipment issues.
• Recognize and report patient signs and symptoms to the Registered Nurse.
• Maintain quality assurance and infection control per hospital policies and mandatory obligations; document data accurately in the EHR, patient care flowsheet, and clinical records.
• Perform responsibilities during emergency/code situations and function as a patient observer.
• Perform other related duties as required.

• Current Rhode Island license as a Nursing Assistant.
• High school graduate or equivalent (preferred).
• Basic computer skills.
• Certified in American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
• Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, considering aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.

Experience:

One-year experience as a Nursing Assistant preferred.

Works in healthcare environments such as acute care hospitals, physicians’ offices, and ancillary health care enterprises. The role requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, repeated bending, squatting, stooping, and may require lifting and turning patients and equipment.

Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse within the scope of hospital mandates and the Rhode Island Department of Health Professional Licensing and Facility Regulation. Refers specific, complex problems to supervisors when clarification of policies and procedures may be required.

Pay Range: $18.00 – $25.82
