Staff Accountant
We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Veneer Division Accounting team. This role is responsible for supporting corporate cash management, fixed asset accounting, financial reporting, and general accounting activities. The successful candidate will also provide backup support for key accounting functions, including payroll, accounts payable, banking, invoicing, accounts receivable, and other shared accounting processes.
Columbia Forest Products is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Veneer Division Accounting team. This position is responsible for plant accounting, financial reporting, and general ledger management for assigned business entities. The Staff Accountant will support a variety of accounting and financial processes while partnering closely with mill and corporate teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
In addition to core accounting responsibilities, this role will provide cross-functional support and backup coverage for key plant accounting functions, including payroll, accounts payable, banking, invoicing, accounts receivable, and payment processing.
The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple locations.
This role is on site and can be located in either Newport, VT or Presque Isle, ME
The salary range for this role is 65-75k.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain general ledger accounts and ensure accuracy of financial records for assigned entities.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports and support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Perform account reconciliations and assist with audits and financial reporting requirements.
- Support plant accounting operations and collaborate with mill management teams.
- Provide backup support for payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, invoicing, and other accounting processes as needed.
- Assist with process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives within the accounting function.
- Utilize financial systems and reporting tools to analyze data and support business decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
- Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- 1-3 years of accounting experience
- Accounting experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or similar business environment.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
