Technical Assessors – Toxicology, Analytical Chemistry, Asbestos & Occupational Hygiene

Contract Type: Independent Contractor (day rate basis)

UKAS is the UK’s National Accreditation Body, responsible for assessing organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services. Our focus is on conformity assessment
, ensuring technical competence and integrity across a wide range of sectors.

We are seeking Independent Technical Assessors with expertise in:

• Toxicology (including workplace drug testing)
• Analytical Chemistry (e.g. testing of soils, waters, air, metals, fuels, coatings)
• Occupational Hygiene (e.g. exposure monitoring, workplace assessments)
• Asbestos Testing and Sampling (e.g. bulk analysis, air monitoring, fibre counting)

Assessors will support UKAS assessments by evaluating technical competence, data integrity, and quality control practices. You’ll be part of a team conducting ISO/IEC 17025 assessments, reviewing documentation, witnessing tests, and providing expert input.

We welcome applications from professionals with:

• Proven experience in one or more of the above fields
• Strong understanding of analytical techniques (wet chemistry and instrumental)
• Familiarity with occupational hygiene practices and relevant matrices
• Knowledge of industry standards and sector schemes
• Experience in ISO/IEC 17025 accredited environments
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to assess data performance, integrity, and quality control
• Experience in internal or external auditing (training available)

Desirable areas include:

• Method validation and traceability
• Risk-based assessment approaches
• Technical judgement in complex laboratory settings

• Day rate basis, either self-employed or via current employer
• Flexible workload based on customer demand
