Avcon Industries Inc Technician & Skilled Trades Full Time On-site
Avcon Industries is looking for skilled and motivated individuals to join our fast-paced modification installation team. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with aircraft electrical and avionics systems, modification installations, and wire harness building, and will be proficient in utilizing wiring diagrams to determine installation procedures and requirements for custom and complex projects. This role requires technical proficiency, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a small team.
EssentialFunctions
- Read, interpret, and work from wiring diagrams to construct wire harnesses.
- Remove, identify, and tag the location of equipment in the aircraft prior to modification.
- Work with large numbers of wires in an organized fashion, document any changes to wiring, and record completed work that differs from original diagrams or drawings.
- Troubleshoot systems utilizing applicable drawings, diagrams, manuals, and software.
- Apply a working understanding of general aircraft wiring practices, circuit breakers, and aircraft electrical bus theory.
- Follow aircraft drawings to make modifications as required.
- Provide appropriate changes to electrical wiring consistent with FAA-approved practices.
- Reinstate and reinstall all equipment that was removed for aircraft modification.
- Report to supervisor any work that will not pass aircraft inspection or appears inadequate.
- Operate in accordance with the FAA-approved Repair Station Manual, FAA Advisory Circulars, and manufacturer requirements.
- Be open to occasional travel as needed.
- Perform additional tasks as required by Avcon Industries.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of hands‑on experience with electrical avionics installations, modifications, and wire harness building, or 2 years plus graduation from an accredited aircraft maintenance school.
- Specific or specialized military experience will be considered.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to interpret, follow, and execute aircraft wiring diagrams.
- Must be able to pass drug and alcohol tests as required by the FAA and Avcon policies.
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate is desirable but not required.
- Familiarity with turboprop aircraft such as the King Air or Cessna Caravan is a plus.
- May be required to work overtime, non-standard hours, or rotate jobs and shifts as needed.
- Hands‑on experience with installation and application of various avionics and electrical parts, components, and materials.
- Experience cutting wire to length, stripping insulation from wire ends, and insulating connections with plastic sleeves.
- Proficiency in routing, pinning, connector installation, and other applications for installations and repairs.
- Ability to adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems, coaxial cable, and aircraft accessories.
- Ability to plan and lay out wiring sequences and processes based on specifications to carry out complex troubleshooting, repairs, and installations.
- Ability to attach wire or complex electrical systems to fixtures, accessories, transformers, instrument panels, and circuit breaker panels using fasteners, bolts, screws, or solder.
- Ability to read and interpret complex diagrams and technical drawings to determine project requirements.
- Experience operating and maintaining a variety of industry‑specific and general hand tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve fabrication and installation issues, making necessary adjustments to meet quality and safety requirements.
- Ability to collaborate with engineers and managers to determine and ensure feasibility of modifications and production timelines.
- Ability to document fabrication and installation processes and maintain accurate records of work performed.
- Must have sufficient dexterity to access and work in and around cramped and confined spaces.
- Must be able to lift greater than 45 pounds repetitively throughout the day, and lift, hold, and move 60 pounds while standing.
