SummaryThe Library Teaching Assistant supports library staff to provide focused teaching with students in the library and in classes. Responsibilities include circulation desk duties, book processing, creating displays, and training and supervising student workers. The assistant is often the first staff member a student encounters for general information and library resources.
This is a 14.5‑hour part‑time position.
Qualifications- Familiarity with computers and online applications, including Google Drive, email, web searching, and online cataloging.
- Enthusiasm for working with students and teachers.
- Ability to process and shelve books.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, multi‑tasking environment and willingness to learn new skills.
- Experience with Follett/Destiny a plus.
- Ability to create thematic book displays.
- Manage circulation desk: check books, laptops, and supplies in and out; manage overdues, send notices, and follow up.
- Respond to library phone calls and general questions; redirect as necessary.
- Train and supervise student workers.
- Process and catalog new books; shelve materials; perform book repair.
- Create and maintain themed displays inside and outside the library.
- Make automated and laminate materials for faculty.
- Order supplies and manage copy machine and printer supplies.
- Maintain weekly, monthly, and yearly statistics for librarians.
- Enforce library policies and follow up with teachers regarding Directed Study students.
- Provide substitute educator services and attend related trainings as required.
Physical Requirements
- Kneel, stoop, bend, and crouch frequently.
- Stand, talk, and listen periodically.
- Sit, walk, lift, or carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
