SummaryThe Chinese Teacher is responsible for delivering the curriculum at various levels through an immersion‑type environment, assessing student learning, and maintaining open communication with parents, counselors, and the broader community. The role also includes contributing to the development of the World Language Department, attending meetings, performing administrative duties, and fulfilling additional responsibilities as a member of the wider school community.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
- Appropriate DESE teaching license
- Ability to handle complex issues, meet diverse student needs, make split‑second decisions, deliver content creatively, navigate technology, and teach anti‑bullying curriculum
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Chinese
- Ability to use technology effectively
- Uses the target language for general instruction
- Utilizes the offerings of a digital language lab
- Experience with people and customs from other cultures
- Strong content knowledge of grammar and vocabulary beyond textbook structures
- Knowledge of literature and other aspects of Italian culture
- Flexible and willing to share knowledge with colleagues
- Ability to teach multiple grade and curriculum levels
- Committed to helping all students, including minority and low socioeconomic groups, achieve their potential
- Ability to implement modifications and accommodations required by an IEP
- Knowledge of the new Massachusetts Teacher Evaluation System
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and demonstrate differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students
- Plan and deliver lessons using a variety of strategies
- Develop a variety of assessments to evaluate student learning
- Recommend students for placement
- Write a variety of student‑related reports (teacher comments, college recommendations, IEP assessments)
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, lesson, and assessment design
- Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and the community
- Perform homeroom and study hall duties
- Attend departmental and school‑wide meetings
- Perform other duties as needed
Physical Requirements
Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day, with occasional after‑school meetings such as Back to School Night. Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function; rare absences or lateness are accepted only in emergency circumstances.
Physical Requirements:
The teacher frequently walks, stands, sits, talks, and hears. The teacher may occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The teacher must have sufficient mobility to navigate a large school building. The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
