Position: 0.25 FTE Chinese Teacher

Job Description

Chinese Teacher for the World Language Department, responsible for delivering curriculum across various levels in an immersion-type environment and assessing student learning.

Summary

The role requires maintaining open communication with parents, counselors, and the broader community, contributing to the department’s development, attending meetings, and performing administrative duties as needed.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
  • Appropriate DESE teaching license
  • Ability to handle complex issues, meet diverse learning needs, make quick decisions, deliver content creatively, navigate technology, and implement anti-bullying instruction.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Chinese
  • Ability to use technology effectively
Desired Qualifications
  • Use the target language for general instruction
  • Utilize digital language lab resources
  • Experience with people and customs from other cultures
  • Strong content knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, and literature beyond textbook structures
  • Knowledge of Italian culture (including literature and other cultural aspects)
  • Flexibility and willingness to collaborate with department members
  • Ability to teach multiple grade and curriculum levels
  • Commitment to supporting all students, especially minority and low‑socioeconomic students
  • Ability to implement IEP modifications and accommodations
  • Knowledge of the Massachusetts Teacher Evaluation System

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and demonstrate differentiated instruction to meet all students’ needs.
  • Plan and deliver lessons using a variety of instructional strategies.
  • Develop assessments to evaluate student learning.
  • Recommend students for placement.
  • Write student‑related reports (teacher comments, college recommendations, IEP assessments).
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, lesson, and assessment design.
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and the community.
  • Perform homeroom and study hall duties.
  • Attend departmental and school‑wide meetings.
  • Other duties as needed.
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements

Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day, with occasional after school meetings. Regular attendance is essential; rare absenteeism or tardiness is acceptable only in emergencies.

Physical Requirements:

The teacher frequently walks, stands, sits, talks, and listens. Occasionally lifts or moves objects up to 25 pounds. Adequate mobility is necessary for navigating a large school building. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
