SUMMARY: The Spanish teacher is responsible for delivering the curriculum at various levels through an immersion‑type classroom environment, assessing student learning, and maintaining open communication with parents, counselors, and deans. The teacher will contribute to the mission and work of the World Language Department, attend meetings for students and teachers, and fulfill administrative duties as a member of the broader school community.
Full‑time Spanish teachers at Newton North teach four classes at a variety of levels and seek applicants with diverse experiences.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Appropriate DESE teaching license
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Spanish
- Ability to use technology effectively
- Master’s Degree or significant post‑graduate coursework in subject area
- Experience teaching high school students in Spanish
Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To)
- Design and implement curriculum and instruction that supports culturally responsive instruction and universally designed learning
- Prepare and deliver instructional lessons with clear measurable outcomes
- Deliver instruction primarily in the target language
- Provide appropriate and effective learning experiences for students from diverse socio‑economic levels and cultural backgrounds
- Demonstrate differentiated instruction to meet all students’ needs
- Implement accommodations and curricular modifications specified in educational plans (IEPs)
- Use formative and summative assessments to measure student progress toward proficiency targets and inform instruction
- Use technology to support student learning, including a digital language lab
- Consult and implement strategies from the school’s BCAP (Building Curriculum Accommodation Plan) to provide appropriate supports
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, lesson and assessment design
- Participate actively in faculty, department and team meetings
- Set professional development goals and plans, and participate in professional development activities that promote reflection and growth
- Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and the community
- Comply with school safety procedures
- Maintain consistent, reliable and punctual attendance
- Use the school’s online learning management system
- Responsible for implementing other job‑related duties as needed
Physical Requirements
Work Environment: Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day. Occasional after‑school meetings such as Back to School Night may occur. Regular attendance essential.
Physical Requirements: Teacher must walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear frequently; occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Mobility sufficient to navigate a large school building. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
