Teaching Assistant Position
Teaching Assistant candidate will assist licensed Chapter 74 Carpentry teacher in the shop and related classroom. The candidate must have knowledge of and or willingness to learn the competencies and skills required of students in the specified career area, Carpentry. The candidate will have an understanding of student learning styles and possess the ability to work with all students. The candidate will assist the licensed CTE teacher in delivering quality programming to prepare the students to meet the requirements and expectations of the CTE program.
Required Qualifications:
Associates degree or meets the DESE requirements for NCLB paraprofessionals. Characteristics which clearly incorporate a team concept and indicate ability to work well with high school students and colleagues with a variety of abilities in a positive, polite and friendly manner. Possess personal and professional history which is exemplary and supported with reference. The candidate must be able to inspire excellence, achieve consensus and respond effectively to the system's mission with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to: administrators, parents, teachers, students, other school staff and visitors. Knowledge of and or willingness to learn shop safety, hand tools, power tools and equipment for specified shop area.

Carpentry Trade experience preferred. CTE school graduate encouraged to apply. Bachelor's Degree beneficial.
Essential job duties and responsibilities (not limited to):
Assists licensed teacher in preparation for shop and classroom activities. Assists licensed teacher in daily implementation of shop projects and related instruction. Monitors students in completing shop tasks. Assists the licensed vocational teacher in accommodating the special needs of individual students. Assists in the maintenance of individual records for each student. Helps to maintain discipline under the supervision of the licensed teacher.
Alerts the licensed teacher to any problem or provides special information about an individual student. Assists the vocational teacher in maintaining a safe and clean work environment. Works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by licensed teacher. Assists individual students in need of special attention. May serve as a substitute teacher in the absence of the licensed teacher, limited access to equipment and machinery.
Models shop and classroom safety expectations. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of the licensed teacher. Participate in in-service training programs, as assigned. Other duties deemed necessary by the administration for the effective operation of the CTE program and the welfare of its students. Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students.
Responsible for implementing "other job related duties" as needed.
Work Environment:
Majority of work is performed in a school/classroom environment. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
