High School Early Childhood Education Teacher
The High School Early Childhood Education Teacher provides engaging, standards-based instruction to students in grades 9–12 enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program. The teacher delivers instruction using in-person content delivery coupled with online platforms, prepares students for careers and post-secondary studies in education and child development, and facilitates authentic learning experiences through a laboratory preschool setting. This position includes curriculum development, student assessment, supervision of student interns, and coordination of a Dual Enrollment partnership that provides students with transferable college credit.
Instructionand Curriculum
- Provide instruction to students in grades 9–12 across all levels of the Early Childhood Education Program.
- Implement curriculum aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, Dual Enrollment Standards, and post-secondary expectations and update as needed.
- Teach courses including Introduction to Child Development, Early Childhood Exploratory I, II, and III, Early Childhood Major, Independent Study, and other related coursework.
- Instruct a Dual Enrollment Course in partnership with Middlesex Community College in which students are simultaneously enrolled at NPS and MCC. Students receive transferable credit upon completion of course.
- Deliver instruction through a variety of modalities, including in-person, blended, and online learning environments.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs and promote equitable access to learning opportunities.
- Integrate technology, project-based learning, and authentic assessment practices into instruction.
- Mentor, coordinate, and supervise high school student interns working within the onsite laboratory preschool setting.
- Model effective teaching practices and support students in applying child development theory to practice.
- Facilitate student reflection, goal setting, and professional growth through observation and feedback.
- Collaborate with preschool staff to ensure a high-quality learning environment for both preschool children and high school students.
- Develop and utilize a variety of formative and summative assessments to measure student learning and program outcomes.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of achievement.
- Implement and support the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework to address students' academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Collaborate with counselors, special education staff, administrators, and families to support student success.
- Co-Coordinate and facilitate the Dual Enrollment Program partnership between the high school and local higher education institutions.
- Ensure program alignment with college-level expectations and requirements.
- Support students in successfully completing coursework that earns transferable college credit.
- Maintain communication and collaboration with college faculty and administrators regarding curriculum, assessment, and student progress.
- Participate in curriculum review, program evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with faculty, administrators, community partners, and families to enhance program offerings.
- Maintain current knowledge of best practices, educational research, and trends in early childhood education.
- Participate in professional development and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
- Massachusetts licensure appropriate for teaching Early Childhood Education at the secondary level:
Comprehensive Health (previously Health/Family and COnsumer Science) - Bachelor's degree required;
Master's degree preferred. Early Childhood MA State License PreK-2 preferred. - Demonstrated knowledge of child development, early childhood education, and secondary pedagogy.
- Experience working with preschool-aged children and supervising student interns preferred.
