Who we are
Share your love of music, song and related games by teaching music classes to children in grades K-3 this summer at Camp Kaleidoscope, the JCC summer day camp in Newton. Camp Counselors and activity specialists guide campers in drama, art, science, sports, swimming and more as they develop self‑confidence.

Primary Responsibilities- Plan, prepare, and lead age‑appropriate music activities.
- Ensure the safety and well‑being of campers during activities.
- Create a fun, inclusive, supportive environment that encourages skill‑building.
- Work in partnership with counselors and leadership to provide a cohesive camper experience.
- Maintain, organize, and request necessary supplies and equipment.
- Adapt activities for diverse camper needs.
- Support camp‑wide special events and large‑group programming as assigned.
- Assist with overall camp operations (drop‑off/pick‑up, transitions, lunch, supervision, etc.).
- Create a welcoming dynamic where each individual is valued and respected.
- Participate as an essential team member.
- Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, vision, and values: belonging, joyfulness, collaboration, transformation.
- Represent the organization, model excellence and achievement.
- Attend meetings and trainings as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This is an hourly position with a daily schedule of 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday. Pay rate starts at $20 per hour, determined by qualifications and experience. Benefits include access to JCC Greater Boston’s fitness center and a supportive in‑person work environment. The 8‑week camp program runs June 22 – August 21 (including staff training). Hours may be flexible to accommodate other obligations.
Requirements- High school degree preferred; college degree or equivalent in a music‑related field preferred.
- 1+ season of instructor experience in music classes for children.
- Customer service experience preferred.
- Enjoy working with children and supporting their growth.
- Expertise in music instruction.
- Ability to plan and lead engaging, inclusive activities.
- Excellent group management, communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
- Safety awareness and risk management during activities.
- Creativity, flexibility, patience for diverse camper needs.
- Positive, energetic, inclusive camp environment.
- Proactive problem‑solving and willingness to seek guidance.
- Self‑starter who takes initiative and builds collaborative relationships.
- Work in a busy, dynamic, sometimes noisy environment.
- Manage tasks under varied weather conditions.
- Lift and carry up to 30–40 pounds.
- Sit, kneel, and get down to eye level with children.
