Chinese Teacher

The Chinese Teacher is responsible for delivering the curriculum at various levels through an immersion-type environment as well as for assessing student learning. The teacher is also expected to maintain open communication with parents and counselors/housemasters, contribute to the regular functioning and development of the World Language Department, attend meetings for students and teachers, attend to administrative duties, and fulfill other responsibilities/duties as a member of the broader community.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's Degree Appropriate DESE teaching license Ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues including, but not limited to meeting the learning needs of a diverse student body, split-second decision making, creative delivery of content, navigating technology, and anti-bullying curriculum instruction. Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Chinese Ability to use technology effectively

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):

Design and demonstrate differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students. Plan and deliver lessons using a variety of strategies Develop a variety of assessments to evaluate student learning Recommend students for placement Write a variety of student-related reports (teacher comments, college recommendations, IEP assessments) Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, lesson and assessment design Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, parents and the community Perform Homeroom and Study Hall Duties Attend departmental and school-wide meetings Other duties as needed

Work Environment &

Physical Requirements:

Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day, however there may be occasions for after school meetings (ex: Back to School Night). Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function. Rarely absent or late unless the situation is of an emergency nature.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The teacher is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The teacher must have sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
