Special Education Teacher – High School History

Dearborn Academy, a leading therapeutic day school in New England, seeks a High School Special Education History Teacher for a 10‑month full‑time position (2026‑2027). The role supports up to sixty students (grades 3‑12) with emotional and/or specific learning disabilities, blending rigorous academics with clinical services to enable substantial student gains.
Job SummaryDevelop and implement a responsive history curriculum aligned with each student’s IEP and the Massachusetts State Standards, Common Core, NGSS, and school curriculum. Collaborate with the high‑school teaching team, IEP teams, clinicians, caregivers, and administration, and act as a primary classroom instructional leader.
Responsibilities- Plan and deliver individual and group lessons that meet IEP objectives and state standards.
- Create routines to develop students’ executive function skills.
- Integrate assistive technology and multi‑modal learning in instruction.
- Assess student progress continuously, collect data for quarterly reports, and review data with the team.
- Supervise students at all times.
- Lead weekly community‑building circles as part of the restorative practices model.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to design student‑specific instructional approaches.
- Communicate consistently with all staff and families to maximize student success.
- Attend required school meetings, IEP meetings, and training sessions.
- Write educational and IEP plans, quarterly progress reports, and related documents promptly and professionally.
- Maintain a trauma‑informed, welcoming classroom that celebrates diversity and student achievements.
- Support school‑wide activities such as field day, celebrations, and clubs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s in Education or related field preferred. - License in Moderate Disabilities (grades 5‑12) preferred; history license preferred.
- Experience teaching students with diverse learning styles and social/emotional disabilities.
- Experience leading 1:1, small‑group, and inclusion classes using a strengths‑based, structured, multi‑sensory approach.
- Strong writer and communicator; can synthesize data and information.
- Demonstrated compassion, curiosity, and kindness toward students, families, and staff.
- Solution‑focused and strengths‑based mindset for challenging situations.
- Able to maintain open, honest communication and uphold the agency’s commitment to integrity.
- Respect for diverse teams and ability to promote an inclusive environment.
Annual salary range: $60,000‑$72,000. Dearborn Academy offers a competitive wage and benefit program, along with a supportive team environment.
