SUMMARY: The DESE certified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides educational support to deaf and hard of hearing students included in various general education classes. This Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing will provide both direct services (class, small group or one to one) and consultation services to the teachers, aides, interpreters, staff, and parents. The students will be on IEPs or 504 Plans and typically use hearing aids, FM, and/or infrared sound field systems in the school environment.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Weekly monitoring of the condition and use of appropriate classroom and individual amplification equipment for each student
- Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Computer experience: database, spreadsheet, Power Point
- Sign Language proficiency
- Knowledge of Curriculum and ability to modify.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):
- Participate in the development of student’s Individual Education Programs (IEPs)
- Provide students with intensive instruction in language, communication skills, reading and auditory training as dictated in the IEP
- Assist Speech and Language Pathologists in language and speech programs
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the areas of language development and language refinement needed by DHH students
- Provide emotional support for students and families to promote understanding and coping skills for children’s hearing loss
- Assist teachers in the development and implementation of curriculum accommodations/modifications and appropriate classroom strategies for students who are deaf/hard of hearing
- Maintain appropriate records and provide timely reports
- Keeps abreast and applies new information, innovative ideas and techniques that target DHH students
- Consistent and on-time attendance is required or supervision and instruction of the students
- Other duties as needed
- Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students
- Responsible for implementing "other job related duties" as needed

- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Able to transition between at least five schools per day – daily driving required

Salary: up to $56 Per Hour
