Highspring has been engaged on a rare opportunity to take ownership of an underleveraged engineering function and drive meaningful, visible impact in a complex manufacturing setting. You’ll work closely with senior leadership, shape the future of engineering at the company, and support critical programs in defense and other demanding industries.
A specialized and growth-focused manufacturer is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead and elevate its engineering organization. This critical leadership role will be responsible for rebuilding and driving a high-performance engineering function in a technically demanding environment that includes flowforming, CNC machining, heat treatment, and complex post-processing operations.
The ideal candidate is a practical, floor-focused leader with a deep background in complex or precision manufacturing environments — someone who can balance mentorship, execution, and accountability while driving improvements in speed, quality, and repeatability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of ~7 engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and excellence.
- Build structure, discipline, and documentation rigor across engineering processes.
- Guide technical execution in flowforming, CNC turning/milling, heat treating, and downstream operations.
- Serve as a technical anchor in cross-functional problem solving with quality, metrology, and manufacturing teams.
- Establish and enforce engineering standards—drawings, documentation, and design for manufacturability.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on process repeatability and production efficiency.
- Represent engineering in customer meetings, program reviews, and technical audits.
- Assess current team capabilities and lead upskilling, restructuring, and hiring as needed.
- Learn and internalize a proprietary, mission-critical flowforming process integral to product success.
Candidate Profile
Must-Have Experience:
- Prior leadership in a precision manufacturing environment (aerospace, defense, automotive, or metals-related industries preferred).
- Deep experience in CNC machining (turning, milling, programming/g-code).
- Strong background in materials and metallurgy—especially steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and nickel alloys.
- Proficiency in Solid Works or similar CAD tools.
- Familiarity with heat treatment processes, mechanical testing, and process validation.
- Exposure to NDT and destructive testing methods: x-ray, ultrasonic, hydrostatic, mag particle, tensile, etc.
- Demonstrated success implementing engineering best practices and leading teams through change.
Preferred Traits:
- Floor-oriented leadership style—comfortable solving problems in real time, side-by-side with production.
- Clear communicator with the ability to influence across functions and with customers/suppliers.
- High attention to detail and process discipline, without losing sight of practical manufacturing realities.
- Strong interest or prior exposure to flowforming—or a demonstrated ability to quickly master proprietary processes.
- A mindset grounded in operational results
